Dr. Michael Taylor and Winter ArchibaldWinter Archibald Wins Statewide Leadership Award

ASHEBORO (April 25, 2008)

Winter Kye Archibald of Asheboro, an Associate in Arts (College Transfer) student at Randolph Community College, was awarded the Dr. Michael Taylor Award at a recent conference of the N4CSGA, a statewide group of student government associations from North Carolina community colleges.

The award is given to a student whose work has enhanced the growth of others in their organization, increased teamwork and personal involvement, while helping the organization reach its potential. This student exemplifies a desire to lead by serving others in the community, on their campus, or in the community college.

"Winter Archibald has the rare ability to juggle numerous activities and responsibilities without losing her focus on her priorities and her goals in life," said RCC President Bob Shackleford. "She has a wonderfully positive attitude and is an exemplary servant-leader."

Archibald is currently secretary of the Student Government Association at RCC, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and co-founder and president of the Campus Crusaders, a student Bible study group at RCC. She also served as chairman of the SGA special events committee, and she was recently chosen one of 14 students to attend the first Student Leadership Academy at RCC.

In the community, Archibald is an active member of Crossroad Baptist Church, where she has taught the Wednesday night youth group for the last four years, is chairman of the video and media committee, is a member of the youth council and events planning team, and is a substitute High School Sunday School teacher. She has been a member of the Prison Ministry Fellowship, served as a student intern for the church, planned and led an entire middle school retreat, and was a student leader on many mission trips, including trips to the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Alaska, and West Africa. During the summer of 2008, Archibald will be one of four college students leading weeklong youth camps in North Carolina and in Honduras for an eight-week term.

Archibald has also worked as assistant manager for America's Roadhouse in Asheboro for the last five years.

The award is named after Michael Taylor, president of Stanly Community College and the liaison between the N4CSGA and the North Carolina Community College System President's Association. Dr. Taylor is described as "the embodiment of servant-leadership. He encourages leaders to serve others while achieving results that reflect the organization's values and integrity."
