Dr.
Robert Shackleford, president of Randolph Community College, announced
that Pfeiffer University is partnering with RCC to offer area residents the
opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in Elementary Education. Pfeiffer
University will offer the program on RCC's Asheboro Campus.
Shackleford
stated, "This partnership expands the career choices available to area
residents. By bringing their program to our campus, Pfeiffer makes
it convenient for students to earn a teaching degree without disrupting their
lives to do it."
Designed
for part-time students, the program offers courses through evening classes,
online classes and hybrid classes, which combine traditional classes and
online work.
According
to Dr. Phyllis Helms, RCC's vice president of instructional services, "Pfeiffer
is a leader in bringing education to the student. This program meets
the needs of our area residents who want to become elementary teachers and
it helps our local school systems find the personnel they need."
Three
upper-level education classes will be offered for the spring semester. Beginning
in January, Pfeiffer professors will teach classes on Mondays from 4-9:30
p.m. Pfeiffer will offer the courses required for the degree in sequence
over a three-year period so that a group of students will progress through
the program together.
Details
will be presented in an information session to be held on Tuesday, November
27, at 6 p.m. in the Foundation Conference Center on the RCC campus. At
that time, prospective students will meet with Pfeiffer personnel from Admissions,
Financial Aid, and the Education Department.
Students
who already have an Associate in Arts (AA) degree or who have completed hours
toward the AA may apply for this program. Applications for admission,
as well as questions regarding advising and financial aid for the BA in Elementary
Education, should be sent to Pfeiffer University. All transcripts should
be sent to Pfeiffer University as well.
Interested
students may contact Dr.
Barbara Kean, Director of Elementary Education,
Pfeiffer University, at 704-463-3153 or barbara.kean@pfeiffer.edu for
more information.
