Randolph Community College's annual day training course for Basic Law Enforcement will begin on Monday, Jan. 7, at the Emergency Services Training Center at 895 Training Center Drive, just off Old Cedar Falls Road.
Students have only two opportunities each year to enter this program. The daytime program is offered in the spring semester only. The evening class begins in the fall and runs through the spring semester.
This program uses state-commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include criminal, juvenile, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.
The BLET program is designed to give students essential skills for entry-level employment as law enforcement with state, county or municipal governments or with private businesses.
Students applying to the BLET program must be U.S. citizens, must be 20 years of age or obtain a waiver from the director of the N.C. Criminal Justice Standards Division, must have a valid N.C. driver's license, must pass a medical physical exam, must have a clean criminal record (minor violations only), and must obtain a sponsorship from an N.C. law enforcement agency.
Registration for classes will be Jan. 2, at RCC's main campus, but students should fill out their applications and obtain medical and sponsorship forms early enough to have these requirements completed before registration.
