The musical group "Timeless" will
play for 45th Anniversary festivities at Randolph Community College on Saturday,
Sept. 15. The public is invited to this free concert, from 1-4 p.m. in the
plaza/courtyard area on the Asheboro Campus. Attendees are encouraged to
bring lawn chairs.
Carol Sykes, one of RCC's current students, is a vocalist for this eight-piece
band complete with brass that performs a variety of music that spans several
decades. Timeless, which was formed in the summer of 2004, is based out
of Greensboro. Some of the band members have been playing together for more
than 17 years.
A College Fair will be held from 2-4 p.m. with a variety of activities,
including demonstrations in various program areas, mini-classes such as "Ask
a Designer" and "Introduction to eBay," children's activities,
a pottery sale, and Joey the Clown. Vintage cars, restored Harley Davidson
motorcycles, and Kyle Petty's #45 race car will be on display. Free cold
beverages and snacks will be available. Nearly all campus buildings, including
the Foundation Conference Center, will be open for tours.
The General Education Department (College Transfer) will feature mini-classes
by mathematics instructor Sue Shelton and philosophy instructor Todd Thompson.
Biology instructor Ann Cutter will have exhibits set up in the biology lab
in the Health & Science Center. English instructor Jennifer Macy plans
to conduct brief workshops on interviewing skills. English instructor Melinda
Lamb will have prints for sale of RCC Retiree Lenton Slack’s painting “Jumping
Off Rock,” and a booth will be set up for the fine arts magazine Uwharrie
Dreams, a student publication.
In the Mechanical and Industrial Department, the Automotive Systems Technology
lab and the Machining shop will be open with demonstrations of new equipment.
The Electrical/Electronics and Industrial Systems Technology areas will
be open as well.
The Human Services Department will have displays for the following programs:
Funeral Services, Criminal Justice, Basic Law Enforcement Training, and
Early Childhood Education.
The Business Technology Department, the Health Occupations Department,
the Photographic Technology, Art & Design Departments will be open for
visitors to explore the facilities and hear more about the programs. The
Developmental Studies Department will also be represented.
The Continuing Education Division will have displays and/or demonstrations
ongoing for Taxidermy, Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy, Medical Office
Assistant, Small Engine Mechanics, Small Business Center, and various computer
and online classes. Adults and children will be able to get hands-on in
the pottery shop, and RCC's Adult Basic Skills classes will display some
of their latest instructional technology. Children’s activities will
include a storyteller and games.
In addition, visitors can learn about career planning, goal setting for
education, training and job search activities at the JobLink Career Center
while enjoying some warm, buttered popcorn. Partners represented will include
Employment Security Commission, Vocational Rehabilitation, Workforce Investment
Act, RCC's Human Resources Development program, Department of Social Services,
and The National Caucus and Center on Black Aged Inc.
Randolph Community College's Asheboro Campus is located at 629 Industrial
Park Avenue. Take the McDowell Road exit off 220 Bypass and follow the signs.
