Chinese, Spanish, Arabic Classes Begin Next Week

Summer is a great time to learn a new language. Randolph Community College will be offering several beginning language classes next week on the Asheboro Campus, including Spanish, Arabic and Chinese.

Elementary Chinese is designed for students at the beginning level who wish to learn Modern Standard Chinese (or Mandarin) for their own interests or business and to understand the culture and society in which the Chinese language is spoken. The class focuses on Chinese as spoken in day-to-day life. A multi-skills teaching approach is used, giving equal emphasis to the training of standard pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary usage. The class (FLI3720A 74460) will meet from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 11-July 18. The instructor is Zhi Fen Lane. Registration is $60, plus the cost of a textbook.

Beginning Spanish will prepare students to have conversations with Spanish-speakers. Topics include basic fundamentals of grammar, oral comprehension, various dialects, and basic conversations. Two sections are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 11-Aug. 8. The first section (FLI3717A 74890) will be taught by Nina Vaughn from 9-11:30 a.m. and the second section (FLI3717A 74892) will be taught by Rick Weaver from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Registration is $60, plus the cost of a textbook.

Beginning Arabic is a study of the basic elements of the Arabic language and culture with emphasis on pronunciation, reading, and writing. The course (FLI3719A 74915) will meet from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 12-July 19. The instructor is Hazem Eldara. Registration is $60.
