Photo Taken at RCC Appears on Dance Photographer’s Calendar

ASHEBORO (December 21, 2006) – A photograph taken in the Randolph Community College Photography Imaging Center last February has been published on dance photographer Lois Greenfield’s 2007 calendar, “Breaking Bounds.” Greenfield, widely considered to be one of the world’s premier dance photographers, appeared at RCC on Feb. 18 and 19, 2006, to give a lecture and conduct an advanced workshop on her unique form of photography. Assistance for the Feb. 19 workshop and live presentation was provided by the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.

School of the Arts dancers Brandon Whited and Dale Harris appear in the photograph, which is printed above the month of March. RCC photography student Jan Balster assisted Greenfield with the digital image workflow.

Greg Stewart, departmental chair and instructor for the Photographic Technology, Art and Design department at RCC, said a 10 ft. x 10 ft. rear projection screen was used so the audience could see the results as Greenfield was shooting her photographs. “Even with the control that she had over the dancers, there was still a certain amount of chance involved in each image,” he said.
The calendar can be obtained at local and online bookstores. For more information about Lois Greenfield, go to her Web site at www.loisgreenfield.com.

Randolph Community College’s Photographic Technology, Art and Design department brings the college’s renowned Advertising & Graphic Design, Interior Design and Photographic Technology programs under one academic umbrella. In addition to their specialized training, students in each of the programs are introduced to concepts from other disciplines. The result is that students emerge from their program with a solid understanding of several arts-related disciplines, and a broad base of marketable skills and experiences.

Photographic Technology students have a choice of four concentrations: Biocommunications Photography, Commercial Photography, Photojournalism and Portrait Studio Management. For more information on these programs, contact the Information Center at (336) 633-0200.
