Community College’s Information Systems for the Future progresses
Linker approved as Randolph CC's interim president

RALEIGH - The North Carolina Community College System is positioning itself to have one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date information management systems in education. Action by the State Board of Community Colleges today, June 16, moved that project forward.

For the past six years the NCCCS has been in the process of implementing its College Information System that will serve all 58 community colleges in North Carolina. Today, the State Board approved several contracts to continue that implementation and to lead to the System Office ultimately taking over total project management of the system from the vendor, Affiliated Computer Services.

In other action, the Board approved Dr. Larry Linker as the interim president of Randolph Community College (Asheboro), effective July 1. Current RCC President Dr. Richard Heckman announced in early March that he would resign, effective June 30 this year, after six years in the top post. Heckman became president when Linker retired after serving the community college for 37 years, including 12 as president.

The Board then turned its attention to the pending State Budget, which is now headed to the conference committee. System President Martin Lancaster told the Board members that the proposal passed by the House was somewhat better than the Senate version; but there are still some omissions. He specifically asked the members to contact legislators, especially the appointed conferees. They need to push additional funding for the high-cost Allied Health programs, which include nursing, a particular area of importance.
