Interior Design Instructor

Holly D. Barker

Holly BarkerProgram head of the Interior Design Program in the Photographic Technology, Art and Design Department, Mrs. Barker holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and Home Furnishings Marketing from the Earl N. Phillips School of Business at High Point University, CIDA Accredited. Having taught Interior Design at Randolph Community College since 2003, Barker has a broad range of teaching experience in numerous subjects and includes: cross training with the Advertising and Graphic Design Program, hands-on interdisciplinary projects, leading the co-operative learning experience, and travel abroad opportunities.

Barker is president and principle designer for House of Woodward, a design firm specializing in furniture and product development exclusively for high-end domestic and international furniture manufacturers. Barker has designed for some of the top leaders in the industry and for private labels. With a keen eye for editing, her design has been described as sophisticated and modern. Barker holds an interest in green materials and sustainable building methods.

An avid volunteer, she sits a two-year term on the Historical Preservation Commission for the city of High Point, is a member of Women in the Home Industry Today, American Society of Furniture Designers.


Ann Smith-Palenchar

Ann Smith PalencharAfter making a decision to leave corporate training and development, Ann Smith-Palenchar earned her A.A.S. in Interior Design from RCC in 2006 and now works as a full-time design instructor.

Ann has a B.A. in communication studies from UNCG and owns her own design company, Innovated by Design, LLC in Greensboro. She has also completed GREENleaders Certified Sustainability Training through the Sustainable Furnishings Council.

Ann resides in Greensboro with her husband and son.
