Community College Students Donate to Pakistani Earthquake Relief
Effort |
RCC's Common Threads student
organization has raised $319.06 to help victims of last falls killer
earthquake in Pakistan.
Common Threads is a weekly student discussion group focused on finding
unity in diversity which functions under the auspices of the RCC
Student Government Association. They began the Pakistan Earthquake
Relief Fund in response to a Pakistani students plea for help. Common
Threads decided to make the donation to OXFAM USA - an international
development and relief agency committed to developing lasting solutions
to poverty, hunger, and social injustice.
In addition to the money raised from students, Common Threads donated
$100 from their own Student Government budget to go to the Pakistani
relief effort. |

| Autobody
Repair Openhouse (AUG 5, 2005) |
The Annual
Autobody Repair Openhouse was held on August 5 from 3 p.m. – 8
p.m. Around 40 guests gathered in the Autobody Repair shop in
the VT building. The Openhouse offered new product presentations
and displays from local vendors, a spray-in bed liner demonstration
from current students, and a car rally. Guests enjoyed a barbeque
dinner and chances to win door prizes donated by local businesses
and vendors The car rally drew new and old cars—‘57 Chevy, Roadster,
Mustangs, and a lifted 4X4 truck. “This is the first year that
we've included a car rally in the agenda,” says Danny Moore, program
head and instructor for Autobody Repair. “I think the guests really
got excited when they saw what people have done with their vehicles
using the skills we teach in this program. I believe the rally
is definitely something we'll include in the future.” The Annual
Autobody Repair Openhouse is designed to showcase what RCC has
to offer potential students. It provides information on new products
for students and local shop owners. And current students and recent
graduates are given the opportunity to network with potential
employers. |

| Archive
Collection Project (June 23, 2005) |
In 2007
and 2012, RCC will be celebrating its 45th and 50th Anniversary
respectively. Debbie Luck, Director of Library Services, and Clark
Adams, English Instructor are currently working to organize and
preserve the archival material of the College, but we need your
help. We have many print documents that need to be organized and
many photographs that need to be identified. We will also be looking
through newspaper clippings and other historical materials that
document the history of this college.
Do you have any old photographs or documents that relate to RCC?
If so, please let Debbie or Clark know if you would like to donate
these items to the Archive collection.
If any faculty and staff would like to be involved in this project,
so do not hesitate to contact Debbie or Clark. We need your knowledge
of RCC history, as well as past faculty, staff, and students.
We also need your technical knowledge in areas such as computer
scanning, preservation, and software. This is a large project,
so there are many ways in which you could contribute.
Be sure to mark your calendars for July 13, at 11:00am for our
first interest meeting. There will be discussion of the work to
be done. |
