Preregistration

To preregister for noncredit classes, call Randolph Community College at (336) 633-0267 in Asheboro or (336) 862-7980 in Archdale. Please have the course code and your social security number ready when you call. Preregistrations can be made by phone Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The preregistration process helps us plan noncredit courses. If a large number of people are interested in a course, and we know in time, we may be able to set up an additional section to accommodate everyone. On the other hand, your preregistration makes it possible for us to notify you if there is insufficient interest in the course and it has to be canceled.

Registration

Registration and prepayment of fees are required in advance to reserve space in the class. New students cannot be accepted after the class has completed 20 percent of the scheduled course hours.

Eligibility

Admission is open to any adult, 18 or older, who is not currently enrolled in public school. Students 16 to 18 may enroll when space is available with permission from their high school principal. A special form signed by the principal is required.

Credit

Certificates of completion are awarded for those courses which are obviously work related. Participants in Community Service courses may receive certificates by request. In order to qualify for a certificate, students must attend a minimum of 80 percent of the scheduled course hours.

Cost

Registration fees vary according to the type of course and are set by the College according to State Board of Community Colleges regulations.

Occupational Extension (including Hosiery Technology Center and Small Business Center) - Fees are determined by course length according to the following schedule. A fee for materials may be charged in addition to the registration fee. For courses consisting of 0-10 hours of instruction, the fee is $50; 11-30 hours, $55; 31-100 hours, $60; 101 or more hours, $65.
Continuing Education bullet Occupational Extension - Fee supported
In unique situations, it may be beneficial for all parties involved for the College to conduct training on a fee-supported basis. The College reserves the right to make that determination. If the decision is made to conduct training using this option, the fee is established according to actual costs incurred by the College in providing training.

Small Business Center Seminars - No registration fee; $5 hospitality fee

The College reserves the right to revise fees on a course-by-course basis, depending upon total instructional and support costs. N.C. residents 65 years or older are exempt from registration fees, except in courses that are marked with an X.

Refunds for Extension Courses

No refunds will be made for self-supporting or community service classes. A student who officially withdraws from an Occupational Extension class prior to the first class meeting will be eligible for a 100 percent refund. Also, a student is eligible for a 100 percent refund if an applicable class fails to “make” due to insufficient enrollment. Also, after the class begins, a 75 percent refund shall be made upon the request of the student if the student officially withdraws from the class prior to or on the 10 percent point of the scheduled hours of the class. No refunds will be made after the 10 percent point, even if the student has not attended classes up to that point.

Course Repeat Policy

Unless duplicated registrations are required for certification, students who take an Occupational Extension course (the same course title) more than twice within a five-year period are required to pay a fee more in line with the actual cost of providing instruction. An example of the difference in pricing is as follows: For a 33-hour course, the fee for a person who is taking the same course for the third time would be $183.15 ($5.55 per hour) rather than the current $60 registration.
