The Business Administration curriculum is designed to introduce students to the various aspects of the free enterprise system. Students will be provided with a fundamental knowledge of business functions, processes and an understanding of business organizations in today’s global economy. JOB OPPORTUNITIESBusiness Administration graduates will find the entire range of above-average, average and below-average employment opportunities in business-related careers. The growth rate for employment in North Carolina in the fastest growing occupations ranges from 3% to approximately 7%. Employment opportunities exist in a wide range of businesses, government offices, public firms, banks and credit unions, life insurance companies, hospitals, schools/colleges, and industries. The need for business graduates can be found in any setting where organization, management and/or accounting skills are utilized. Average annual national salary for someone with an associate in applied science degree in Business Administration is approximately $26,000. Locally, starting annual salaries for graduates in 2001 were in the $16,000 – $27,000 range. Working conditions will vary depending on position and industry. However, most of the positions will be in an office setting with working hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Major CoursesAccounting (Degree - 3 courses) - Students learn the basic principles and procedures of accounting, including collecting, summarizing, analyzing and reporting financial information, and corporate and managerial accounting for both external and internal reporting and decision making. Students also will study federal income taxes for individuals, partnerships and corporations. General Education CoursesElectives (Degree - 2 courses) - Business Administration students are required to take a 3-credit-hour humanities/fine arts course and a 3-credit-hour social/behavioral science course.
