The Autobody Repair curriculum provides training in the use of equipment and materials of the autobody repair trade. The student studies the construction of the automobile body and techniques of autobody repairing, rebuilding and refinishing using state-of-the-art equipment. RCC’s Autobody Repair curriculum uses the I-CAR ADVANCE-TECH™ curriculum including the PACE program. ADVANCE-TECH™ is the only state-of-the-art, industry endorsed and developed collision repair curriculum that prepares students for the high-tech and rewarding careers in the collision repair industry. ADVANCE-TECH™ is mandated or endorsed by several state departments of education and meets National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation requirements for ASE certification.
The course work includes autobody fundamentals, industry overview and safety. Students will perform hands-on repairs in the areas of nonstructural and structural repairs, mig welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing and other related areas. To help document progress, students develop a portfolio that includes certificates of completion from I-CAR, PPG and RCC. |
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Autobody Repair graduates should qualify for entry-level employment opportunities in the automotive body and refinishing industry and may find employment with dealerships, franchises, insurance companies, paint companies, independent auto body shops, race teams, trucking companies, corporations, boat and motorcycle shops, glass shops, custom and restoration shops, auto parts stores and training centers. However, the majority of jobs in auto body will be found in a shop environment with hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Locally, graduates start at $9 – $12 per hour, but have started as high as $17.50 per hour. The North Carolina average is approximately $32,400 annually. In the Triad, there are many technicians making $40,000 – $120,000 annually.
