Taxidermy

N.C. residents 65 years or older are exempt from registration fees in some classes. Please ask when you register if your class is exempt.

This is a four-part program that covers small game (fall), birds (spring) fish (summer) large game (winter). However, courses can be taken individually. This is a training program for students wishing to become professional taxidermists. Students will be advised about the acquisition of taxidermy tools. Students must provide their own legally obtained specimens specific to the season.

Taxidermy: Birds & Fish

Students in this course will concentrate on the mounting of birds and fish with related practical experience in the mounting of selected specimens. Topics in this class will include: Birds and Fish identification, measuring techniques, preserving and tanning of skins, rebuilding, coloration and habitat displays.

Taxidermy: Advanced Small & Large Game

($181.25)
Students taking this course will study and gain practical experience in mounting small game and large game such as squirrels, raccoon, fox, bobcat, deer, bear, etc. Included in this study will be topics such as animal identification, rebuilding techniques, preserving and tanning hides, specimen posing, and habitat building for displays.
