Accelerated Machinist

($180 + $.55 fee)
This course introduces machining operations as they relate to the aviation industry, and also introduces the programming, setup, and operation of CNC turning and machining centers. Topics will include machine shop safety, measuring tools, lathes, drillings machines, saws, milling machines, bench grinders, layout instruments, programming formats, control functions, program editing, part production, and inspection. This course also introduces the student to the basic principles of blueprint reading and machining calculations. Emphasis is placed on setup and operation of machine tools, including the selection and use of work holding devices, speeds, feeds, and cutting tools. Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform the basic operations of measuring, layout, drilling, sawing, turning, and millings, interpret basic blueprints, and manufacture simple parts using CNC turning and machining centers. This course focuses on the aviation industry, but holds applicability to any metalworking industry.

Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform the basic operations of measuring, layout, drilling, sawing, turning and milling.
