AHA Core Instructor Course (BLS, ACLS, or PALS)
($55)Students wishing to become an AHA instructor must align themselves with a Training Center PRIOR to registering for this course. After the student completes the Core course, they must complete the discipline specific instructor course at their CTC. The CTC in which they are affiliated will issue the instructor credential after their initial monitoring as an instructor. The Core Instructor course teaches the necessary methodologies to teach the adult learner.

Anatomy & Physiology for EMS Professionals
($60)This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the human body. The curriculum consists of objectives from Appendix E of the 1998 Release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Paramedic: NSC. Topics include a basic study of the body systems as well as an introduction to homeostasis, cells, tissues, nutrition, acid-base balance, and electrolytes. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of anatomy and physiology. This course is a prerequisite for EMS 3031, Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Initial.This course may be taken as an elective for the Medical Office Assistant program.

($60 + $2.50 CPR card fee; books available in Campus Store)Students will review basic emergency care skills, study updates, the use of new equipment, and problem areas working toward recertification as a North Carolina EMT. This course will follow the guidelines established by the N.C. office of EMS and the local EMS system. In addition to on-campus classes, this course will offered as a hybrid course consisting of online and face-to-face meetings. Students will complete the necessary practical evaluations and scope of practice evaluations during the face-to-face sessions. Student prerequisites: currently or previously credentialed (within the last 3 years) as a N.C. EMT or higher, high school diploma or GED, or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum tenth grade level.

Acceptable scores on placement tests or documentation of previous education consistent with the above educational requirements must be completed prior to entry into the EMT-Intermediate program. Hazardous Materials Awareness, Operations & Terrorism
($60)This course combines both the Haz Mat Awareness and the Operations into one program. Course topics include recognition, isolation, identification, and various defensive control options available to the Haz Mat Operations level responder. The course also includes elements of terrorism and its potential impact and relationship to a hazardous materials incident. This class meets all the competencies required by OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 472 1997 edition.

Health Care Provider CPR
($45 - includes book & completion card)This course is designed for the professional health care provider (EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians), but may be applicable for day care workers, lifeguards, and other professionals who respond to emergencies. The course covers prudent heart living, risk factors, heart attack signals and actions, stroke information, the automated external defibrillator, and barrier devices. Upon successful completion, students may be certified in adult foreign body airway obstruction and CPR, pediatric foreign body airway obstruction and CPR, and adult two-rescuer CPR. Students are evaluated through written and practical examinations and a score of 84 is required. Students may be remediated to complete the requirements. This course meets the special training requirements for certification of day care workers. Students should purchase a pocket face mask, available in RCC's Campus Store. Minimum five students, ten maximum.
