Human Resources Development Program

The HRD program provides employment training, counseling, and assistance to prepare individuals for entry or reentry into the workforce.

Courses are available to help individuals explore their career options, receive career planning and educational counseling, as well as build job search strategies and interviewing techniques.

This program also offers introductory computer skills classes where students learn to utilize the computer to gain employment information.

HRD courses are fee-waived (FREE) to those who are unemployed, have been notified of impending layoff, or meet eligibility requirements.

Career Exploration & Road Mapping

This course provides the individual who is unemployed or seeking a career change with a way to assess his/her interests, attitudes, aptitudes, values, and readiness as it relates to career, employment, educational, and retraining options. The course will focus on personal development, career and occupational exploration, job and market analysis, community resources, and decision making as related to employment.

Employability Success

This course provides employability skills training for adults who are unemployed or who are seeking to change their career. This course is located on the main campus in room AE123, in the Joblink Career Center. It is intended to be an open-entry, open-exit lab setting and is self-paced. An instructor is available to assist students and guide through course topics. Topics covered in this course include resume writing, interviewing skills, applications, assessments of persons' interests and skills, development of decision making skills, problem solving, development of communication skills, computer literacy skills and career readiness certification, as well as other job readiness skills.

This course provides the jobseeker with assistance in developing the tools and strategies needed to conduct an effective job search such as developing a plan for job search, compiling employment related documents including resumes, cover letters and applications, learning how to use networking and telemarketing, and developing effective interviewing techniques.

This class is designed to help students learn to build healthy work relationships and conduct themselves professionally in an office setting. The course focuses on how to create a professional appearance, develop positive relationships with co-workers and the boss, develop telephone, e-mail and office etiquette, learn how to be a team player, learn to work with customers and learn how to handle ethical dilemmas and personal issues. The course also discusses etiquette for meetings and lunches, traveling on business, and writing business documents. Finally, students learn how to job hunt while still employed, job interview skills, how to resign and how to write a resume.

Skills for Success

This course provides a plan for success in either work or school environments. By teaching the concepts for successs and progression, the student will develop a positive self concept, employability skills to ensure progression, effective communication techniques, problem solving and decision making skills, and an awareness of the impact of information technology in the workplace. Through goal setting and achievement, note taking and test taking strategies, reducing test anxiety, building study skills, managing stress, developing time management techniques, the student will be better prepared for employment, retraining opportunities, or advancement in the workplace.
