Basic Electricity
($60 + textbook)This course provides an introduction to industrial electrical maintenance by discussing, defining, and showing the relationships between Ohm's law, volts, amperes, and resistance. Students will solve problems in Direct Current series, parallel, and series parallel circuits. Alternating Current will be discussed including basic terms and three phase AC systems. Students will learn to read electrical schematics and solve various problems associated with electrical flow and troubleshooting using mathematical calculations and test equipment.

North Carolina Code Officials Standard Courses
Participants will have a better understanding of the Electrical Code of the North Carolina State Building Code and will be able to apply the Code in the inspection field. With the successful completion of these courses in conjunction with other education and experience requirements specified by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, course participants will be eligible to take the state examinations for inspector certification. All Code Enforcement Officials/Inspectors must take an approved CE course. The Standard Code courses may be used to fulfill this requirement with 12 credit hours being earned. Participants must complete 80% of the course attendance but are not required to take the final exam.Electrical Level I Standard Inspection Course
($60)This course is designed for the education and training of the Electrical Level I code enforcement official who has the responsibility of inspecting residential and small commercial electrical installations in construction up to 20,000 square feet in size.

Electrical Contractor's License Renewal
According to Title 21 of the N.C. Administrative Code - Chapter 18B - Section .1100, "... qualified individuals ... shall complete eight contact hours of approved continuing education for each license period ..." These courses meet the requirements of the N.C. State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors for 8 contact hours of continuing education credit. They are not sponsored by the Board. All of the N.C. Code Officials Standard Courses are approved as License Renewal credit for Electrical Contractors. Up to 24 hours of credit can be earned for completion of 80% of the Code Classes. Services, Overcurrent Protection, Grounding, Surge Protection, and Wiring Methods
($50)The student will receive detailed information on the requirements of an electrical installation. This will include conductors that are installed outside as outlined in 225 and 230 as they would pertain to feeders and services. The different type of conductors and their ability to be installed in different locations such as dry and wet locations and their requirements to be sunlight resistant when exposed. The protection of the conductor to short circuits and ground fault and overcurrent will be discussed in detail. The rules for installing conductors without overcurrent protection such as services and tap conductors will be covered.
