Junior Member Standard

In January 2008, the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission enacted the Junior Member Standard that regulates which courses students will and will not be allowed to receive credit towards certification, based on the course and its requirements for completion and the student’s age.

Credit towards certification is granted at the discretion of the N.C. Fire & Rescue Commission division of the N.C. Office of State Fire Marshal. Randolph Community College will administer courses in accordance with the Junior Member standard. There will be certain Firefighter I & II, Rescue Technician, Driver Operator, and Hazardous Materials courses that, based on your age, you will not be eligible to enroll. Currently none of the Driver Operator courses including Emergency Vehicle Driving are available for Junior Members. Junior Members will not be allowed to participate in Live Burn evolutions (standards or non-standards) EXCEPT for those conditions and tasks that are allowable by the Junior Member standard (i.e. operate a fire pump, etc.).
