App Attack!

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Learn how to be a Fantasy artist! Learn the secrets and techniques to bring your stories and characters to life in a professional and informative manner. Dragons, fairies, wizards, and beasts will literally jump from your canvas when you learn how to capture your imagination with the right tools. Starting first with basic drawing and structure, then advancing to color, painting, and storytelling, you will learn how to draw and paint the bigger-than-life world of Fantasy! The instructor, Terry Locke, is an award-winning artist and author with more than 25 years of professional experience in the creative field.

This course enables you to learn the latest trends, favorite styles and hair science in an effective manner. This one of a kind hair styling course includes a variety of celebrity hairstyle favorites and red carpet styles all creating using your own manikin. Additionally, these courses will teach you the proper products, ingredients, tools, and know-all to design your own hair.

This course introduces the basic fundamentals of drawing and creating cartoon characters. Students will discover drawing materials, elements of design, basic forms, simple cartoon forms/characters, naturalistic drawing and cartooning, and sequential art.

Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just made $1 million for programming in his/her bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Face Painting & Body Art

This isn't your "simple" face-painting method of flowers, hearts, and team logos seen at grade schools and local festivals.  In this intense weeklong workshop, you will learn the professional process and techniques on how to design and create Face-Painting effects.  Layer color to alter facial features and transform them into all kinds of characters and creatures.  You will also view the art of air-brushing techniques.  This workshop will consist of demonstrations and HANDS-ON learning.

Make Your First 3D Video Game!

Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student-created games will be available on a password-protected, Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like “Inside Out” and “Frozen” by using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a password-protected, Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Mac users can play their project at home, but will not be able to edit the project without a PC. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

If you love the game Minecraft and always wanted to design your own world, this class is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Have you ever seen a really great nail art design on a beauty blog or Pinterest board and thought, "I could never do that"? Guess what? You can! This workshop is spectacular and fun! In this stunning weeklong class, you learn how to create brilliant designs which covers the basic techniques you'll need for creating your own masterpieces. You will learn the little tricks and techniques to create cool nail art designs. There's no need to have experience to take this nail art course. If you can paint your nails with nail polish, you can create fun nail art. You’ll be a hit with your family and friends!

Pottery Focus 1: Tribal Art

Explore making pottery that is inspired from the Aztecs, Mayans and Native Americans.You will spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday creating your projects. Thursday will be spent on glazing your bisque-ware. Once your pottery is fired, will be ready to take home! Pottery projects will include, suns, lizards, pinch pots with cactus, teepees and masks. Campers will learn pottery vocabulary, learn how to hand-build with clay and spend some time on the pottery wheel

Pottery Focus 2: Master Artists

Explore making pottery that is inspired from Van Gogh, Monet, Salvador Dali, and Jackson Pollock! You will spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday creating your projects. Thursday will be spent on glazing your bisque-ware. Once your pottery is fired, will be ready to take home. Pottery projects will include, Van Gogh sunflowers in vase, Monet lily pad saucer with frog mug, Salvador Dali animals and Pollock wall art. Campers will learn pottery vocabulary, learn how to hand-build with clay and spend some time on the pottery wheel

Make your own Star Wars adventure come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures or Star Wars and create a short film with your friends. Whether you want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a new world of your own, this class brings your dreams to the screen. Students will need to bring in Star Wars action figures or vehicles from home, but all other equipment provided. Student-created films will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Theatrical Make-Up: Character Recreations

In this class, you’ll use make-up and other effects to transform people into characters by using  facial hair applications, tattoos and disfigurations. You’ll create movie star look-alikes, elderly people and characters from the past; as well as a demonstration on creating goblins and elf ears. This workshop will consist of demonstrations and HANDS-ON learning. The instructor, Jennifer McCollum, is a licensed cosmetologist and professional make-up artist, working on sets such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Army Wives, Hunger Games, Max, and many more.

In this class, you’ll use techniques to create phantoms, zombie, aliens; as well as scars and wounds. This course will show you how to create professional quality, quick “easy to apply” prosthetics, as well as prosthetics from scratch.
