50 Years of Operation!
Randolph Community College officially opened to students on September 4, 1962, as the Randolph Industrial Education Center. Throughout 2012, a series of events will be held to honor the accomplishments of our faculty and staff, students, alumni, retirees and College founders. The community will also be honored for its 50+ years of support. Please join us in celebration of the College's 50th birthday in 2012!

Students, faculty and staff participate in a year-long volunteer action project to show our appreciation for 50+ years of community support.

Hugh Morton Photography Exhibit (Open to the public)
The Photographic Technology Department is hosting an exhibit of Hugh Morton's original photographic prints. The free exhibit of 15 Morton photographs is located in the Photography Imaging Center on RCC's Asheboro Campus from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays - Thursdays, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays.

Music in the Park Summer Concert Series in Bicentennial Park (Open to the public)
RCC will serve as a sponsor for this year’s Music in the Park Concert Series held in Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro.

Dancing with the Randolph Stars - 6 p.m. (Ticket required)
The Randolph Community College Foundation will hold the 2012 Dancing with the Randolph Stars Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the AVS Catering & Banquet Centre. Seventeen local celebrity couples will take to the dance floor competing for monetary votes in support of the Foundation, with proceeds going toward scholarships for Randolph Community College students. Doors will open at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., and the program will begin at 7:45 p.m. Tickets may be purchased through the DWRS website at http://www.dancingwiththerandolphstars.org.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association each year, this event traditionally gives students a chance to interact with their peers and experience the college environment on a different level. This year’s Fall Fest will feature a 50th Anniversary theme.

Randolph Arts Guild will host the 50th Anniversary RCC Photo Alumni Exhibition. RCC Faculty will select images by submission in 2012, which will be submitted digitally and delivered ready to hang before the date of the exhibition.

Bush Hill Heritage Festival (Archdale) - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Open to the public)
Be sure to visit the RCC booth at the Bush Hill festival! The Bush Hill Heritage Festival, one of North Carolina's premiere family-fun festivals, is held annually in downtown Archdale. This festival combines music, events, games and crafts that celebrate the history and heritage of the area. The festival began in 1986 to celebrate the bicentennial of the Quakers settling Bush Hill. Quaker heritage is proud and strong and carries with it a tradition of excellence showcased during this annual event.

Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce "Coffee & Conversation" (Archdale) - 8 - 9 a.m. (Open to the public)
Catch up with some of the local leaders of the Archdale-Trinity community in a casual setting by attending this breakfast meeting and hearing Lisa Bock, Director of the Archdale Center, and others highlight the programs currently offered at Archdale. This event will be held at the Guil-Rand Fire Department, 10506 South Main Street. There is no charge to attend.
Cultural Arts Jazz Concert - 7 p.m. (Open to the public)
Former RCC Visiting Artist Michael Stephenson will reunite with the Randolph Jazz Band, a band which he helped to form while a visiting artist at RCC. The performance will take place in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium at 7 p.m.

Founders Day (Invitation only)
A luncheon will be held for RCC founders and RCC retirees to recognize them for their contributions to the establishment, growth, and development of the College. An Employee Service Recognition board will be unveiled, and these special guests will be given a tour of selected facilities.

Be sure to visit the RCC booth at the 40th Anniversary of the Asheboro Fall Festival, which began in 1972 on Randolph Community College's campus, then known as Randolph Technical Institute. The event, sponsored by the Randolph Arts Guild, was originally spearheaded by Dwight Holland, Art & Design instructor/department chair at RCC from 1967-1976. The Asheboro Fall Festival is a combination street fair, bazaar, harvest celebration, and homecoming. Held in downtown Asheboro, this popular event offers a variety of quality arts and crafts, demonstrations, children's crafts, food, live music, and a flea market section.

24th Annual NASCAR Day Festival (Randleman) - 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Open to the public)
Be sure to visit the RCC booth at this 24th annual event in downtown Randleman! The 24th Annual NASCAR Day Festival will cover a one mile area of downtown Randleman. The event, held in conjunction with the Richard Petty Fan Club Convention at the Richard Petty Museum and Victory Junction Open House, includes vintage race car displays, food, craft and amusement vendors, games, and live music. Richard Petty will sign autographs from 5 to 7 p.m. in front of the Security Savings Bank.

Celebrate Christmas at RCC’s Archdale Center. Sip on Hot Cider and enjoy delicious treats of the season while viewing art on display in the Youth Art Show. You may cast your Penny Votes in support of RCC's Relay for Life team or simply enjoy a variety of festivities, including holiday music and seeing the Archdale Center beautifully decorated for the occasion. This event honors full-time and permanent part-time employees as well as retirees of the College. Attendees will enjoy music from 1962 and view a slideshow of old photographs from the College Archives. The program will include recognitions of employee accomplishments. Dr. Robert Shackleford will provide an inspiring message that reflects on our past and looks forward to the next 50 years.

Life Enrichment Series: "Grieving and You: A Forum for Understanding" - 8 - 11 a.m. (Open to the public)
This half-day seminar being held in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium is offered as one of President Robert Shackleford's Presidential Initiatives for the 2011-2012 school year to meet a significant need in Randolph County. The keynote speaker will be Edward E. Lindsey, a pastoral counselor who holds a bachelor's degree in theology and a doctorate of psychology. Additional speakers and topics are Normal Grief Response and Complicated Grief, presented by Tim Phaegin, chaplain and liaison for pastoral and community care for Hospice of Randolph County, and Rodney Otwell, chaplain and bereavements coordinator for Hospice of Randolph County; and Children and Grieving, presented jointly by Kelly Olmeida, social worker, and Jennifer Page, who holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, both of who are part of Kids Path with Hospice of Randolph County. The graduation ceremony for the 2011-2012 RCC Student Leadership Academy will be held in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center Auditorium. Keynote speaker will be Ron Miriello, Vietnam Veteran and retired community college leader. Students will also present their leadership projects during the ceremony. Life Enrichment Series: 4th Annual Caregiver College - 8:30 a.m - 3 p.m. (Open to the public)
This event is offered as one of President Robert Shackleford's Presidential Initiatives for the 2011-2012 school year to meet a significant need in Randolph County. Keynote speaker will be Teepa Snow, an occupational therapist with 30 years of experience in geriatrics. Caregivers who wish to take advantage of the free certified nursing care must call 336-633-7706 by March 12 to reserve free home care. The registration fee for the Caregiver College, to be held in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium on RCC's Asheboro Campus, is $25 and will include lunch for those who preregister. RCC Portrait Unveiling by Artist William (Bill) Mangum (Invitation only)
Enjoy a lecture and unveiling of an RCC portrait by North Carolina artist William (Bill) Mangum. Mangum has produced more than 3,000 art originals and has published over 300 paintings as limited edition prints. In addition, six books feature his paintings. Although he has painted numerous college and university campuses across the state, Randolph Community College is his first painting of a North Carolina community college.
