Fellow Ravens, let’s give a hearty welcome to a brand spanking new teacher! Don’t worry, Mr. Pence is really a nice person once you get to know him. (LOL)

Mr. Pence first discovered that he wanted to be a teacher when he was in the eleventh grade, due to the influence of a great U.S. History teacher. He feels that the most rewarding thing about

teaching is being part of someone’s life in a positive way. The most challenging thing about teaching, according to Mr. Pence, is when he gives quizzes that he felt the students were ready for, and they don’t do so hot..

Mr. Pence attended Appalachian State University and comes to us from Randleman High School. We look forward to learning from

you, Mr. Pence! Let’s greet him  with open wings and open minds.

In 1988 all Randolph County Schools were inspected for Asbestos Containing Materials (AXM) according to the rules established by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).  The inspection results and the Randolph County Schools plan concerning asbestos were compiled into a Management Plan for each school.  Each school’s Management Plan is available to the public for inspection upon request.  Interested parties should contact the Principal or the LEA Designee to arrange for

an inspection of the Management Plan.  This year the required three year re-inspection will be conducted.  Any damaged or deteriorated asbestos will be repaired or replaced before the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.  The periodic surveillance results are located in Volume 2 of the AHERA Notebook.

She hails from the flattest area of Maryland, and says she has no regrets leaving there.  After finishing high-school she left home for Frederick College, and found her husband.

The next year they transferred to Elon  University and married.   Her

schoolwork was put on hold due to the Vietnam War and after 5 1/2 years she was able to finish her requirements for her teaching degree. She has since taught at South Davidson Middle School and Southwestern Randolph High School until she came here to RECHS. She says she enjoys the atmosphere here and likes the idea that teens are actually volunteering to acquire an education.
