Objectives

• This immersion course will provide a sound basis for learning Spanish as it is spoken in a Spanish-speaking country.
• By the end of the course, students will have improved their spoken and written fluency.
• Students will have gained an understanding of the Spanish culture and every day life.
• The host family’s culture, way of life, and interpersonal relationships.
• Practice is provided in the skills of speaking, listening comprehension, reading and composition.
• Learn Environmental Biology with Lab work in the ecosystems of Costa Rica.

During Stay

• Officially enrolled in Costa Rican Language Academy (CRLA) for June.
• Lodging with native speakers of Spanish.
• Regular daily attendance in classes at the immersion institute. Any absence must be pre-approved by the instructor. More than two absences during the month could result in failing grade (one absence/two week program).
• Fulfill homework assignments from immersion classes.
• Individual meeting with instructor in Spanish to discuss progress.
• Participate in at least 3 of the cultural excursions planned by CRLA.
• Attend group get-togethers planned by RCC instructor.
• Take and pass final examination at CRLA.
